“During 2012 Artisan Design and Build undertook a major renovation of our 1950s semi-detached house in Blackheath. The house was in very poor condition when we acquired it, and the works included a rear two-storey extension (with piled foundations), a complete new roof (with full loft conversion), all new windows, as well as complete rewiring and replumbing (with new heating system).
As I had not undertaken a project like this before, I knew that finding a trustworthy and knowledgeable builder would be critical. Living in expensive rented accommodation while the work went on (and also paying a mortgage), meant keeping the project on time and on budget was critical.
What impressed me at my first meeting with Nick Hillman was his attention to detail and excellent project management skills. His quote was detailed and broken down well, and he organised his team and other trades efficiently. Nick was always very calm, professional and extremely cheerful (even when I was not!). While a project such as this can be pretty stressful, and there are inevitable setbacks at times, Nick did a superb job of keeping the project moving and keeping me sane.
When I was looking for a builder, my key concerns were keeping to budget and timetable, and getting a good result. By using Artisan I was able to achieve these goals and a lot more I had not anticipated. Now the dust has settled, my family and I are delighted with our beautiful new home. Nick has continued to make himself available to answer questions and deal with one or two minor follow-up issues.
